Modeling support in DMN decision tables
ARIS offers specific modeling support for DMN decision tables that enables you to model DMN diagrams quickly.
Do not derive DMN decision tables as the modeling support for DMN decision tables does not work properly for derived models.
You can configure the header colors of the Input, Output, Annotation column You can also configure the color of the Rule header.
Open a DMN decision table.
Click
Settings.
Specify the colors.
You have configured the properties of the DMN decision table.
You can add a column.
Open a DMN decision table.
Right-click a column header.
Select
Add column to the left to add a column left
Select
Add column to the right to add a column left
Optional: Right-click a column header.
Select
Configure column. The dialog opens.
Enter a name.
Specify a data type. You can create a new object of type Item definition or use an already existing.

Tip
To add a column to the right of the last column of the selected type, click Add column and select
Add input, Add output, or Add annotation
You can add an Input column.
Open a DMN decision table.
Right-click an Input or Output column header.
Click
Configure column. The dialog opens.
Enter a name.
Optional: Enter a description.
Specify a data type. You can create a new object of type Item definition or use an already existing.
Click Apply.
You have specified an Input or an Output column.
You can rename a column and change the description.
Open a DMN decision table.
Right-click a column header.
Select
Rename column.
Enter the new name and description.
Click Apply.
You have renamed a column.
You can copy a column.
Open a DMN decision table.
Right-click a column header.
Select
Copy column.
You have copied a column.
You can paste the column to another position in the DMN decision table.
You can cut out a column.
Open a DMN decision table.
Right-click the column header.
Select
Cut column to cut the column.

You can paste the column to another position in the DMN decision table.
You can paste a copied or cut out column to another position in the DMN decision table.
Open a DMN decision table.
Right-click a column header.
Select
Paste column.

You can move a column if you have more than one column of the Input, Output, or Annotation type.
Open a DMN decision table.
Right-click a column header.
Select
Move right to move a column to the right.
Select
Move left to move a column to the left.
You have moved columns.
By default, a DMN decision table consists at least of three columns: Input, Output, and Annotations. You can only remove the Annotation column of the default columns. You can remove additionally added Input or Output columns.
Open a DMN decision table.
Right-click a column header.
Select
Delete column.
The column is deleted.
You can add rules to your DMN decision table. Rules are added in new rows.
Open a DMN decision table.
Select a row.
Click
Add rule to add a rule below the selected rule.
Right-click the first cell of a rule and click
Add rule above to add a rule above of the selected rule.
Enter input and output data and an annotation.
You have added a rule.
You can copy a rule.
Open a DMN decision table.
Right-click a column header.
Select
Copy rule.
You have copied a rule.
You can paste the rule to another position in the DMN decision table.
You can cut a rule.
Open a DMN decision table.
Right-click a column header.
Select
Cut row.
You have cut out a rule.
You can paste the rule to another position in the DMN decision table.
You can paste a copied or cut out rule to another position in the DMN decision table.
Open a DMN decision table.
Right-click a column header.
Select
Paste rule.
You have pasted a copied or cut out rule.
You can move a row down.
Open a DMN decision table.
Right-click the numbered cell of a row containing a rule.
Select
Move down to move a row down.
You have moved a row down.
You can delete a rule.
Open a DMN decision table.
Right-click the numbered cell of a row containing a rule.
Select
Delete rule to delete a rule.
You have deleted a rule.
You can delete a rule above of another rule.
Open a DMN decision table.
Right-click the numbered cell below of the rule you want to delete

Delete rule above to delete the rule above of the selected rule.

You can enter input data in an Input cell.
Open a DMN decision table.
Double-click a cell in the Input column. The dialog opens.
Enter input data. Depending on the data types specified for this column, different data types or expressions are allowed.
Click
OK.
You have entered input data.
You can delete input data from an Input cell.
Open a DMN decision table.
Double-click the relevant cell in the Input column. The dialog opens.
Depending on the data type that is specified for the input data, you can either click
Delete to delete the data or set the data to (not relevant).
Click
OK.

You can enter output data in an Output cell.
Open a DMN decision table.
Double-click a cell in the Output column. The dialog opens.
Enter output data. Depending on the data types specified for this column, different data types or expressions are allowed.

You have entered output data.
You can delete output data from an Output cell.
Open a DMN decision table.
Double-click the relevant cell in the Output column. The dialog opens.
Depending on the data type that is specified for the output data, you can either click
Delete to delete the data or set the data to (not relevant).

You can enter a text in an Annotation cell.
Open a DMN decision table.
Double-click a cell in the Annotations column. The dialog opens.
Enter your annotation.
Click
OK.
You have entered an annotation.
You can delete an annotation from an Annotation cell.
Open a DMN decision table.
Double-click the relevant cell in the Output column. The dialog opens.
Depending on the data type that is specified for the annotation data, you can either click
Delete to delete the data or set the data to (not relevant).
Click
OK.
You have deleted an annotation.
You can display the DMN decision table in the group tree.
Open a DMN decision table.
Click
Show in >
Group tree.
The Models and objects view is opened on a new tab and the DMN decision table is selected.
You can export the graphic of the DMN decision table.
Open a DMN decision table.
Click
Export >
Graphic export.
The graphic of the DMN decision table is exported to a PNG file. You find the file in the Downloads folder on your hard disk.
You can export the DMN decision table as CSV file.
Open a DMN decision table.
Click
Export >
CSV export.
The DMN decision table is exported as CSV file. You find the file in the Downloads folder on your hard disk.
